چکیده

Background/objectives: Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma is a rare aggressive malignant tumor arising in the sinonasal tract and a malignant neoplasm of uncertain histogenesis. As the tumor contains various components of teratoma, sarcoma and carcinoma arising from cells of embryonic origin majority of the patients suffer locoregional failure. Case report: A 35-year-old patient reported with history of leftsided nasal obstruction since 2 months. A polypoid mass was seen in the left nasal cavity and a clinical diagnosis of infected antrochoanal polyp endoscopic sinus surgery was done. Histopathology with immunohistochemistry confirmation yielded the report as teratocarcinosarcoma. Intervention: Medial maxillectomy with a Moure’s incision was done with adjuvant intensity modulated radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Histopathological analysis of the specimen confirmed the earlier pathology. Conclusion: Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma has a proven poor prognosis with locoregional recurrence. The disease free survival rate is nearly 28% and overall survival rate is of 46%. Optimal resection margins are to be defined and multimodality treatment in the form of postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy are to be standardized.

Recurrent Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma Treated with Surgery and Post-operative Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT): A Case Report

Background: With only about a hundred published cases at this time, sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma is a rare disease managed definitively with surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy with concurrent chemotherapy. With no level I evidence, this management has been based on previous case reports, series and systematic reviews. At this time, there is no guideline on how to manage recurrent disease due t...

Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma Report of a case

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a rare tumor characterized by mixture architecture of epithelial and mesenchymal components. SNTCS is a highly malignant tumor displaying progressive and aggressive growth with poor prognosis. Only about 40% of all patients survive after five years. It seems the combination of surgery and radiotherapy currently is the most effective treatment. In this r...

Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma: An Underdiagnosed Entity Posing Diagnostic Challenges.

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a rare malignancy of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Histologically, this tumor consists of mature and immature components of epithelial, mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin, which may be present in varying proportions. This morphological heterogeneity often leads to misdiagnosis, particularly in biopsies. These patients have dismal prognosis...
